And for the longest time it seemed Tara was sitting alone in the dark, waiting for Willow to return with her magickal "extra-flamey" candle and make everything perfect.

Waiting for someone else's heart to decide her fate.

But eventually, she could take it no longer and she got up and lit her own candle with the fading embers of her own heart.

And then something incredible and wholly unexpected happened.

The world became bathed in light and she saw so many things she had missed before.

She saw other people just like her fighting their way out of the darkness, led only by the sometimes dimming flickers inside their own chests.

and she saw incredible beauty and love and endless possibilities and she knew that the Flame was hers, was Her, as it always had been, but she'd never risked coming too close to it or kindling that fire because she feared she would get burned.

she was terrified of the passionate emotional vortex which lived inside her, terrified it would swallow her, rage out of control.

she didn't know it was her Gift, her Light and it needed only be harnessed to nurture instead of destroy her.

and then she didn't have to lurk in the shadows anymore, trying to suck up other people's radiance and reflect it and keep it for herself.

she had her own.

and it was more than enough.
